How to order an Apostille Certificate from the Illinois Secretary of State

An original or certified copy is required. You can order a certified copy of your articles and request an Apostille at the same time. We recommend faxing the order, only if you are requesting the certified copy at the same time. Normal processing takes up to 10 days, plus additional time for mailing, and costs $2.00. Expedited service is not available. Always provide the name of the country needing an Apostille.

By Mail:

Cover letter must include the address the documents should be mailed to after processing, payment, and a daytime phone number for possible questions. You must enclose the Application for Apostille form, an original or certified copy of the document, or a request for a certified copy of the document.

By Fax:

You may fax your order only if requesting the certified copy at the same time. Apostille Order form required. The request form must include the name of the country. You will want to provide a phone number for any questions, and credit card information on a normal fax cover sheet.

In Person:

Requested documents can usually be provided the same day. You will want to have the certified copy, Apostille Order form, and payment handy.


Do you need to order a certified copy at the same time or does the fee include a certified copy?

A certified copy can be ordered at the same time. This fee does not include a certified copy.


How much does it cost to obtain an Illinois State Apostille?

$2.00 per document for normal processing.

It will be mailed by regular mail, unless you request otherwise and provide a pre-addressed prepaid envelope or UPS/Fed Ex account number. Return service by fax or email is not available.
