How to order an Apostille Certificate from the Michigan Department of State

An original or certified copy is required. You cannot order a certified copy of your articles and request an Apostille at the same time. Normal processing takes up to 20 days, plus additional time for mailing, and costs $1. Expedited service is not available. Always provide the name of the country needing a Michigan Apostille or Certificate of Authentication.

By Mail:
Cover letter must include the name of the country, payment, self-addressed prepaid envelope or airbill for the documents be mailed to you after processing, and a daytime phone number for possible questions. You must enclose an original or certified copy of the document.

In Person:
Their walk in service is available while you wait at various addresses. You can check their website for the one nearest to you. The main Office of the Great Seal address is: 108 South Washington Square, Suite 1, Lansing, Michigan. This office is closed from noon-1:00. You will want to have your payment handy.

Do you need to order a certified copy at the same time or does the fee include a certified copy?

A certified copy cannot be ordered at the same time.
