How to order an Apostille Certificate from the Tennessee Department of State

An original or certified copy is required. You can order a certified copy of your articles and request an Apostille at the same time. However, separate payments are required. Normal processing takes up to 3 days, plus additional time for mailing, and costs $2. Expedited service is not available. Always provide the name of the country needing a Tennessee Apostille or Certificate of Authentication.

By Mail:
Cover letter must include the name of the country, payment, address the documents should be mailed to after processing, and a daytime phone number for possible questions. You must enclose an original or certified copy of the document, or a request for a certified copy of the document.

In Person:
Requested documents can usually be provided while you wait, if provided early in the day. Processing time will depend on current workload. You must provide a certified copy or original document. You will want to have your payment handy.

Do you need to order a certified copy at the same time or does the fee include a certified copy?

A certified copy can be ordered at the same time. This fee does not include a certified copy ($20).

How much does it cost to obtain a Tennessee Apostille?

$2 per document for normal processing.

Is expedited processing available?

No. However, in person orders are processed while you wait.

It will be mailed by regular mail, unless you request otherwise and provide a pre-addressed prepaid envelope or UPS/Fed Ex airbill. Return service by fax or email is not available.
