How to order an Apostille Certificate from the Washington Secretary of State

An original or certified copy is required. You can order a certified copy of your articles and request an Apostille at the same time, additional processing time will apply. We recommend faxing the order, only if you are requesting the certified copy at the same time. Normal processing takes up to 5 days, plus additional time for mailing, and costs $15. Expedited service is available for $20 more and should take less than 3 days, plus additional time for mailing. Always provide the name of the country needing an Apostille.

By Mail:
Cover letter must include the name of the country, address the documents should be mailed to after processing, and phone number for possible questions. You must enclose an original or certified copy of the document, or a request for a certified copy of the document.

By Fax:
You may fax your order only if requesting the certified copy at the same time. An additional $20 fee is required for faxing and is considered expedited processing. Credit/Debit Payment Authorization form required. Cover letter must include the name of the country, address the documents should be mailed to after processing, and a daytime phone number for possible questions.

In Person:
An additional $20 fee is required for counter service and is considered expedited processing. Requested documents can usually be provided within 1 hour. The slowest response time will be between noon and 1:30 p.m. You must provide a certified copy or original document.

Do you need to order a certified copy at the same time or does the fee include a certified copy?

This fee does not include a certified copy ($20). A certified copy can be ordered at the same time. Only one expedite fee will be charged for orders if both requests are for the same company.

How much does it cost to obtain an Washington State Apostille?

$15 per document for normal processing.
$35 for expedited processing (in person or fax only).

Is expedited processing available?

Yes. Only if ordering the certified copy at the same time. An expedited service fee of $20 is required, in addition to the regular $15 fee.

How long does it take to get an Apostille certificate from Washington State?

Expedited Counter Service: within 1 hour (in person only).
Expedited processing: 2-3 business days (fax only) , plus additional time for mailing.
Normal processing: 3-5 business days, plus additional time for mailing.
Due to budget cuts, delays in processing may occur.

How will the Apostille Certificate come back after I order from the Washington Secretary of State?

It will be mailed by regular mail, unless you request otherwise and provide a pre-addressed prepaid envelope or Fed Ex account number. Return service by fax or email is not available.
