Colorado Secretary of State change of registered agent requirements and options

What are the options and different ways you can change your Colorado registered agent?

Most business documents in Colorado are required to be filed online. The two methods used to change your registered agent in Colorado are with the Statement of Change Changing Registered Agent Information or with the Periodic Report, if you are within your periodic reporting period.  It must be accomplished online at the Colorado Secretary of State’s Website, business homepage.

To get started, click on the link found below. You will see and click on Changes or Periodic Report. Type in the entity name and click on “Search”, and the website will display the confirmation page where you must click on “Confirm” to verify that you are authorized to make changes or file a periodic report for the business entity. Then you just complete the form with the name and address of your new registered agent in the appropriate fields, and click “Submit”. A Transaction Preview page will allow you to double check your form or report.

After submitting the document, the Online Payment page will be displayed for either credit or debit card number or prepaid account information. Only click on “Pay Now” once to avoid multiple charges to your account. After the payment has been processed, the Confirmation page will be displayed for you to print out a copy for your records. You are encouraged to provide an e-mail address on the change form or periodic report. It will not appear on your filed documents, but is the only method of receiving notices from the Colorado Secretary of State.

All Colorado Corporations or LLCs, both foreign and domestic, have a three-month Periodic Report period. It is the yearly quarter in which the business was registered in Colorado.  The Colorado Secretary of State will notify you by e-mail at the beginning of the three-month period. If you hire Northwest as your Colorado registered agent, we will notify you as well when the report is due.
