What are the options and different ways you can change your Rhode Island registered agent?
Rhode Island uses the term “registered agent” in their corporation statute and the term “resident agent” in the LLC statute. However, the terms are interchangeable and it is common to simply refer to the “registered agent” regardless of whether you are talking about corporations or LLCs.
You can change your Rhode Island registered agent by filing a paper form or making the change online.
Form:
You can change your Rhode Island registered agent by filing a Statement of Change form with the Rhode Island Secretary of State (SOS). There are two SOS change of agent forms. One form is for corporations, the other is for LLCs. The registered agent does not to sign the form. Rhode Island does not require original signatures on documents. You can submit the form to the Rhode Island SOS by mail or in person. Check for fees should be payable to Rhode Island Secretary of State.
Online:
Visit the SOS Business Services website. You can choose to “File Corporate Forms” and then “File Online by Credit Card.” You will have to enter a Customer Identification Number and PIN to log on. If you do not know your business entity’s login information, you can email the Rhode Island SOS at corp_pin@sos.ri.gov to get it. Then you can choose to change your registered agent. If you file online, you will need to enter your credit card information.

What form do you file to change your registered agent in Rhode Island?
