The best option for changing your business’s registered agent in South Dakota, whether you have a Commercial Registered Agent or a noncommercial registered agent, is to submit the completed Statement of Change of Registered Office or Registered Agent or Both form by mail or in person to the South Dakota Secretary of State Office, in duplicate, along with the filing fee. The registered agent does not have to sign the form, and the signature of the authorized person does not have to be original.

You may also change your registered agent in South Dakota in an Amendment to Articles of Incorporation, or an Application for Amended Articles of Organization. However, amendments are much more expensive than the Statement of Change of Registered Office or Registered Agent. If you happen to be changing registered agent at the time other articles need amending, this will work fine but do not use this method if registered agent change is all you are doing.
