How to get a Certificate of Good Standing or Certificate of Existence from the Illinois Secretary of State

A certificate of good standing in the State of Illinois is for corporations and LLC entities. A Certificate of Existence can be requested for LP, LLP, and LLLP entities in Illinois. You can order by fax, mail, phone, in person or online, but we recommend online. Online orders are processed immediately. Normal processing takes up to 5 days, plus additional time for mailing, and costs $25. Expedited service is available for $20 more and should take less than 24 hours, plus additional time for mailing.

Go to their website and follow the instructions provided to search, pay for and print a certificate. You will be able to authenticate, view and print the certificate yourself in pdf format. The certificate will be emailed to you within 3 minutes. You will want to have your credit card handy.

By Mail:
Requests by mail will be expedited only if paying the additional $20 fee. You will want to provide the business name, payment, specific request and a daytime phone number for any questions.

By Fax:
An additional $2 fee is required for faxing for credit card processing. You will want to provide the Fax Order Form and a daytime phone number for any questions on a normal fax cover sheet.

By Phone:
Called in requests are accepted and they can give you a specific timeframe for processing. You will want to have the business name and credit card handy when making your call.

In Person:
An additional $20 fee is required for counter service and is considered expedited processing. Requested documents can usually be provided within 24 hours. You will want to have your payment handy.
