How to get a Certificate of Existence from the Kentucky Secretary of State

A certificate of good standing in the State of Kentucky is called a Certificate of Existence. You can order by fax, mail, phone, in person or online, but we recommend online. Normal processing takes up to 3 days, plus additional time for mailing, and costs $10.00. Expedited service is not available because online processing is immediate.

Online:

Go to their website and follow the instructions provided to search for the business name and print a certificate. You will be able to authenticate, view and print the certificate yourself immediately in pdf format. You will want to have your credit card handy.

By Mail:

You will want to provide the Order Form and payment with your cover letter.

By Fax:

You will want to provide the Order Form with a normal fax cover sheet. DO NOT send your credit card information by fax. You may pay by prepaid account or credit card. Make note if you would like to pay by credit card and they will call you when your request is processed and ready for payment. They will take your credit card information by phone.

By Phone:

Called in requests are accepted and they can give you a specific timeframe for processing. You will want to have the business name and credit card handy when making your call.

In Person:

Requested documents can usually be provided the same day. You will want to have your payment handy.


How much does a Kentucky Certificate of Existence cost?

$10.00 for online and normal processing.
$5.00 additional fee for return fax


Is expedited processing available?

No. However, online processing is immediate.

How long does it take to get a Certificate of Existence?

Online processing: immediate.
Normal processing: 3 business days, plus additional time for mailing.


How will the Certificate of Existence come back after I order from the Kentucky Secretary of State?

It will be mailed by regular mail, unless you request otherwise and provide a pre-addressed prepaid envelope or UPS/Fed Ex account number. Return service by fax is available for $5.00. Return service by email is not available.
