How to get a Certificate of Status from the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation

A certificate of good standing in the State of Maryland is called a Certificate of Status or a Certificate of Existence. You can order by fax, mail, in person, or online, but we recommend online. Online processing is immediate and costs $40.00. Normal processing takes up to 7 days, plus additional time for mailing, and costs $20.00. Expedited service is available for $20.00 more and should take less than 3 days, plus additional time for mailing.

To display and print an online Certificate of Status, disable your Pop-up blocker and be certain the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader is properly installed on your computer. At their website, follow the instructions provided to search and print a certificate. You will be able to authenticate, view and print the pdf certificate yourself immediately. You will want to have your credit card handy.

By Mail:

You will want to provide the business name, payment, return address information, specific request and a daytime phone number for any questions on your cover letter.

By Fax:

Fax requests are considered expedited processing and additional fees apply. You will want to provide the Fax Order Form, including the business name, specific request, return address information, credit card information and a daytime phone number for any questions. Return service by fax is available upon request.

In Person:

Counter service is considered expedited processing. Requested documents can usually be provided the same day. You will want to have your payment handy. Credit cards not accepted in person.

How much does a Maryland Certificate of Status cost?

$40.00 online processing.
$40.00 for expedited processing.
$20.00 for normal processing.

Is expedited processing available?

Yes. An expedited service fee of $20.00 is required, in addition to the regular $20.00 fee.

Online processing: immediate

How will the Certificate of Status come back after I order from the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation?

It will be mailed by regular mail, unless you request otherwise and provide a pre-addressed prepaid envelope or UPS/Fed Ex account number. Return service by fax is available upon request. Return service by email is not available.
