How to get a Certificate of Status from the Washington Secretary of State
A certificate of good standing in Washington State is called a Certificate of Status or a Certificate of Existence. You can order by fax, mail or phone, but we recommend faxing. Normal processing takes up to 5 days, plus additional time for mailing, and costs $20.00. Expedited service is available for $20.00 more and processing should take less than 2 days, plus additional time for mailing.

Call (360)725-0377. Choose Option #1. The system will walk you through the process and you can pay by credit card. Expedited service is not available with this option.
By Mail:
Requests by mail will be expedited only if paying the additional fee and writing “EXPEDITE” on the envelope. You will want to provide the business name, specific request and a daytime phone number for any questions.
By Fax:An additional $20.00 fee is required for faxing and is considered expedited processing. Credit/Debit Payment Authorization form required. You will want to provide the business name, specific request and a daytime phone number for any questions on a normal fax cover sheet.
In Person:An additional $20.00 fee is required for counter service and is considered expedited processing. Requested documents can usually be provided within 1 hour. The slowest response time will be between noon and 1:30 p.m.
How much does a Washington Certificate of Status or Existence cost?
$20.00 for normal processing.
$40.00 for expedited processing.
Is expedited processing available?
Yes. An expedited service fee of $20.00 is required, in addition to the regular $20.00 fee.

How long does it take to get a Certificate of Status or Existence?
Expedited Counter Service: within 1 hour (in person only).
Expedited processing: 2-3 business days, plus additional time for mailing.
Normal processing: 4-5 business days, plus additional time for mailing.
Due to budget cuts, delays in processing may occur.
How will the Certificate of Status or Certificate of Existence come back after I order from the Washington Secretary of State?
You can request they email the certificate back to you, however, they may or may not grant your request. It will be mailed by regular mail, unless you request otherwise and provide a pre-addressed prepaid envelope or Fed Ex account number. Return service by fax is not available.
