How to get a Certificate of Status from the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions

A certificate of good standing in the state of Wisconsin is called a Certificate of Status. You can order by mail, in person, or online, but we recommend online. Online processing costs $10 and is immediate. Normal processing takes up to 7 days, plus additional time for mailing, and costs $10. Expedited service is available for $25 more and should take less than 2 days, plus additional time for mailing.

Go to their website and follow the instructions provided to search and order a certificate. You will be able to choose either electronic for immediate printing or printed and mailed to you. You will want to have your credit card handy.


By Mail:

Requests by mail will be expedited only if paying the additional fee and specifically requesting it. You will want to provide the Order Form including the business name, payment, return address information, specific request and a daytime phone number for any questions.

In Person:

In person requests are not considered expedited processing unless paying the additional fee. Same day service is not available. You will want to have your payment handy.


How much does a Wisconsin Certificate of Status cost?

$10 online processing.
$10 for normal processing.
$20 for normal processing hard copy in addition to fax.
$25 additional fee for expedited processing.

Is expedited processing available?

Yes. An expedited service fee of $25 is required, in addition to the regular fee. Only one expedited service fee is needed for identical multiple certificate order.

How long does it take to get a Certificate of Status?

Online processing: immediate or mailed, depending on your request.
Counter service and normal processing: 5-7 business days, plus additional time for mailing.
Expedited processing: 2 business days, plus additional time for mailing.


How will the Certificate of Status come back after I order from the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions?

It will be mailed by regular mail, unless you request otherwise for pick up or provide a pre-addressed prepaid envelope or UPS/Fed Ex account number. Return service by fax is available upon request. Return service by email is not available.
