How to order an Apostille Certificate from the Maryland Secretary of State

An original or certified copy is required. You can order a certified copy of your articles and request an Apostille at the same time. We recommend mailing the order. Normal processing takes up to 2 days, plus additional time for mailing, and costs $5. Expedited service is not available. Always provide the name of the country needing an Apostille or Certificate of Authentication.

By Mail:
Cover letter order form must include the name of the country, payment, self-addressed prepaid envelope for the documents to be mailed to you after processing, and a daytime phone number for possible questions. You must enclose an original or certified copy of the document.

In Person:
Requested documents can usually be provided the same day. The earlier in the morning you provide the document, the quicker the processing time will be. You must provide a certified copy or original document. You will want to have your payment handy.

Do you need to order a certified copy at the same time or does the fee include a certified copy?

A certified copy cannot be ordered at the same time because they are processed in a different office.

How much does it cost to obtain a Maryland State Apostille?

$5 per document for normal processing.
