How To Resign As A Registered Agent In Illinois

To resign as a registered agent in Illinois, you must deliver a copy of your Notice of Resignation of Registered Agent to the company from which you are resigning. Then, within ten days, submit two copies of the Notice of Resignation of Registered Agent with $5 for processing to the Illinois Secretary of State by mail or in-person.

Make sure to use the appropriate form and submit the form to the appropriate division depending on business entity type. LLCs must submit to the Limited Liability Division and corporations must submit to the Corporations Division. The Steps To Resign As An Illinois Registered Agent:

Must The Registered Agent Notify The Company Before Filing Resignation With Illinois?

Yes. A copy of the Notice of Resignation of Registered Agent must be delivered to the company from which the Illinois registered agent is resigning at their principal office at least ten days before filing the notice of resignation with the Illinois Secretary of State.

Is There A Fee To Resign As A Registered Agent In Illinois?

Yes. There is a $5 fee to resign as an Illinois registered agent. Payment should be made by check or money order payable to “Illinois Secretary of State”. Credit cards (VISA, MasterCard, Discover, American Express) are only accepted in-person.
