Only after you receive tax exempt status from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.

How does my OR non-profit obtain federal tax-exemption?

You will must submit Form 1023 (a long and detailed questionnaire) to the IRS in order to become federally tax-exempt. After many months of scrutiny, if the IRS decides your non-profit qualifies for federal tax-exempt, you will receive a Letter of Determination.

What about exemption from Oregon state taxes?

Your 501c3 tax-exempt non-profit will automatically be exempt from Oregon Corporation taxes. You will not need to file a Corporations tax return.

What about Oregon sales tax?

There is no sales tax in Oregon.

Is my OR non-profit exempt from property tax?

An Oregon non-profit is not automatically exempt from property tax. You will need to check with the local assessor of the county where your non-profit resides to see if you qualify for exemption from property tax and if filing is required.
