Colorful Creative Concepts
When life hands you diamond dots, why not turn them into a dazzling new business? That’s exactly what Amy Price did when she launched Colorful Creative Concepts, LLC, and transformed a sparkly new hobby into the start of her very first business.
It all began with a gift from Amy’s mother-in-law: a diamond dot version of “Starry Night,” Amy’s favorite painting. As a long-time crafter and cross-sticher, Amy was hooked on the new art form with that first diamond dot kit. “The finished piece looked gorgeous,” she recalls. “I thought, this is really cool, and started buying more.”
After sharing her work with others, Amy recognized a demand for her finished products. Empowered by supportive family and friends, and some business advice from her husband, Amy took the plunge to start an LLC.
Love What You Do
The journey from Amy’s first completed diamond dot creation to a full fledged LLC, with her own website stocked with unique inventory all happened in a matter of months. Her genuine love for creating keeps her momentum going. At the heart of her business, Amy holds fast to a core belief that “If you enjoy what you do, then you never have to work a day in your life.”
Support and Collaboration
Beyond personal satisfaction, Colorful Creative Concepts became a familial endeavor.
Amy’s mother-in-law, whose gift sparked her business journey, actively contributes to creating new products, strengthening their bond in the process. Amy reflects fondly on this collaboration, noting, “Having my mother-in-law with me has brought us closer. I’m thankful because not everyone gets along with their in-laws.”
She also appreciates the support of her husband, who allocated space and resources, recognized her potential, and urged her to follow her dreams. With unwavering support from her husband, mother-in-law, and teenage daughters (who are now Amy’s backup artists!), Amy is grateful for the encouragement she receives from her loved ones.
Managing and Marketing
In an effort to make her business the best it can be, Amy pays careful attention to the results of her marketing strategies and is learning to pivot along the way. She originally utilized mainstream platforms like Etsy, but soon recognized the financial drawbacks. High fees for listing, advertising, and sales cut into profits, prompting Amy to explore alternative strategies that would be a better fit.
Leveraging social media platforms such as Facebook helped develop brand awareness, and Amy is now looking at ways to use these channels to drive sales to her personal website built using our web hosting services. Offering her art on her own site allows her bypass the never-ending recurring fees, and maintain more control over her own business.
Through all the fun she’s had, Amy isn’t afraid to acknowledge the mundane in the midst of the merriment. “We had over like 200 items” she said, recalling the herculean task of creating a listing for each piece of inventory, and assigning a SKU. “It wasn’t what I envisioned in my head” she said. Not be be deterred by the less romantic side of being an entrepreneur, Amy still stands by the fact that her business hasn’t felt like work. She’s as optimistic as ever as she prepares for her first ever local event.
To close our conversation, Amy shared her advice for those considering the leap into small business: “Make sure it’s something that you really love, that you’re passionate about.” If you’re ready to follow your small business dreams, Northwest is here to help.
