Do I have to register my non profit charity with the New York Attorney General?

If your non profit is involved in charitable activities in New York State and plans to seek contributions, you are required to register with the Attorney General, Charities Bureau, whether or not it is exempt from tax. Religious organizations don’t have to register.

NoteDue to the bureaucracy and complicated nature of forming a nonprofit corporation in the state of New York, Northwest does not offer incorporation services for NY nonprofits. We do, however, provide helpful information to help you form a NY nonprofit yourself, and we are happy to provide trustworthy, gimmick-free registered agent service for your non-profit.

What needs filed to register with the Charities Bureau?

A charitable non profit must submit the following documents:

  • Form CHAR410 (Registration Statement).

  • A copy of the organization’s by-laws.
